Catch up on all things sustainability

  • 1 Sep 2024

It’s no secret that sustainability is a pretty big deal here at Lendlease. We have big goals to hit absolute zero carbon for scope 1, 2 & 3. This means that by 2040, our sites will produce absolutely no carbon without using offsets. No greenhouse gas emissions from fuels, electricity, building materials, or tenants – nada. It’s a huge goal, but we’re determined to knock it out of the park. Here’s what’s been happening in the way of sustainability across our Industrial portfolio lately:

Cause for solar-bration

Lendlease has partnered with Solar Bay to install solar panels onto the roofs of a number of sites across New South Wales and Victoria. So far, our completed projects have produced a total of 1,995,500kWh – which is equivalent to taking 322 cars off the road!

In our most recent project, Lendlease teamed up with Energy Bay to complete a 99 KWp solar rooftop installation at one of our customers’ warehouses in Altona. If you’ve been thinking about adding solar to your site, now’s the time to act. Reach out to your tenant partner representative to have your electricity usage assessed for solar.

Good NABERS and good friends

We’re still feeling the rush of some great, green news from earlier this year. Back in February, we achieved the first-ever 5.5-star NABERS Energy rating for an existing industrial building in Australia! The achievement was awarded for a 7,600sqm site located in Villawood, New South Wales. We worked closely with our tenant partner, AUOD, to achieve the rating which shows the building is operating incredibly efficiently.

We’re going to great measures

We’re rolling out an exciting new initiative, and we need your help to make it a success. In the coming months, we’ll be installing sub-metering at your site. Sub-metering involves installing an additional meter to your existing electricity and water meters. This will allow us to capture data in real-time, without needing to ask you for your figures every six months. Sub-metering will be hugely helpful when we’re reporting for things like our sustainability benchmarking and Green Star certifications.

While the water meter installations shouldn’t impact your operations, we may need your cooperation when it comes to the electricity sub-meters. At some sites, we’ll need to temporarily shutdown your electricity. If this is the case, somebody will be in touch ahead of time to coordinate the shutdown with your Operations and IT teams.

With the addition of sub-metering, we’ll gain access to more accurate data collection, early detection of anomalies like water leaks or excessive electricity use, and better sustainability outcomes for everyone involved. We appreciate your support.

Want some tips on how to make your workplace more sustainable? Every little bit helps! Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Reduce energy consumption by turning off lights and equipment when you aren’t using them.
  • Location location location. To reduce waste going to the landfill try increasing the number of recycling bin locations and add signage to encourage people to do the right thing.
  • Make changes in your workplace, like using LED lights and low-flow taps.
  • Consider walking, cycling, or carpooling to work if your job allows it.
  • Keep up with the latest sustainability news and initiatives by reading our newsletters and staying in touch with your tenant representative.
